It Fits... Better

On October 13, 2024, my health journey officially began—not out of vanity, but necessity. That was the day we learned my mom had added another health issue to the long list she was already managing. I love her deeply, but I knew I didn’t want to walk down the same medical path. So, I started walking—literally. 10,000 steps a day, every day. And I’ve kept that promise to myself.

Has it been easy? Not always. Weather, travel, exhaustion—it all threatens to throw me off track. But I’m adamant. I’ve paced the halls of my hometown hotel just to get those last few steps in. I laugh sometimes when I say, “I only got 10,000 steps,” because once upon a time, that number felt impossible.

Beyond movement, I’ve made shifts in how I eat. I refuse to give up the foods I love—I simply eat less of them. I’m drinking less too (Dry January was an experience!). But let’s be real, I still enjoy a Blue Moon beer or a Kir Royale when the mood strikes.

In January, I took the plunge and joined Alloy Personal Fitness. Twice a week, I train with a personal coach. I lament going, but I always feel elated when I’m done. When I groan, “I am too old for this,” Grant reminds me that I’m doing great. And I must admit—I am. Those 10-pound weights? They’ve turned into 15s in just a few months. Am I sore? You bet. Is it worth it? Absolutely.

Proof that I’m making progress arrived in the form of my old white skinny jeans. I haven’t worn them in years. Now? They fit… better. Still a little snug, but I wore them, and that was a victory. My closet has become my own personal shopping mall. Clothes I haven’t touched in ages suddenly have a place in my daily rotation. YAY!

This journey aligns perfectly with my “Streamline & Simplify” motto—my words of the year. As a coach, I encourage my clients to pick their own words, guiding them both professionally and personally. Of course, I practice what I preach. My health is just one part of the transformation, and I’ll be updating you on other areas in upcoming blogs.

And while it may be May, it’s never too late to choose your own word(s) of the year. What do you want to embody? What needs refining in your life? Whatever it is, just know that small steps—literal or figurative—lead to big changes.

If you’re looking for guidance on your own journey—whether it’s health, mindset, or personal development—I’m here to help. Coaching is all about having the right support to streamline and simplify your path forward, and I’d love to be part of that process with you.
