From Hectic Holidays to a Smooth New Year

BGL & Associates, LLC

‘Tis the season of presents, parties, and exhaustion, right? But why not transition into a calm and well-organized New Year? Here are 10 tips you can start today to bring calm and simplicity to your life beginning in January.

  1. 2025 Planning Session Set aside some time for a planning session to consider what you want and need to accomplish in the new year. Is it time to establish an exercise routine or perhaps start a new hobby? Do you have a child graduating? Note down these events, activities, and milestones so you can begin scheduling them on your calendar.

  2. Calendar Speaking of your calendar - make your calendar work for you. Are you using the repeat feature? Make sure to transfer recurring events from 2024 to 2025. Don’t forget about time-blocking, color coding and reminders.

  3. Address Book or Contact List When was the last time you updated your address book or contact list—either on your phone, computer, or client management system? Remove irrelevant contacts and, sadly, those who have passed. A streamlined address book minimizes stress and saves time.

  4. Filing System Maintain (or set up) a manageable filing system complete with a “tickler” file to help locate documents. This also includes your photo management system. Combine duplicates with different names, or better yet, delete non-essential ones. Vow to start your Daily Digital Delete in 2025—15 minutes a day to a saner, less cluttered life.

  5. Environment Declutter your space by dividing your home or office into zones. Take on smaller mini projects rather than massive ones. For example: instead of decluttering your entire kitchen in one go, try organizing one cupboard—or just one shelf—each day.

  6. Clothes Closet When reorganizing your clothes closet, be ruthless. Donate unworn garments to homeless shelters or other charitable organizations. Even tattered clothing can be given away—check with your local recycling centers. Give what you do wear more space.

  7. Plan a Cleaning Schedule Do a little bit daily, then savor your newfound free time on weekends. Before bed, walk through the house and tidy up so it’s fresh and inviting for tomorrow. You’ll start your day on a calmer note.

  8. Plan Meals in Advance Consider a food service like Blue Apron or Hello Fresh, etc. Even just a couple times a week simplifies cooking. This also cuts down on wasted food.

  9. A Dedicated Workspace or Office Space Create a dedicated workspace, even if it’s just a desk (or table) in the corner with a small room divider. Avoid using kitchen areas like tables or counters.

  10. Need Further Assistance January is “Get Organized Month.” Check out the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals (NAPO) for more ideas on organization and productivity. You’ll likely find someone in your region for in-home or in-office coaching. If you live in the Twin Cities, BGL & Associates, LLC is here to help.

There you have it—try these tips to ensure a smoother 2025. Wishing you a joyous and blessed holiday season.
